Create a new document in your CAD or vector illustration program (ex: AutoCAD, Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Illustrator or Inskcape) with the appropriate size for the intended machine (48 inches (h) x 94 inches (w) maximum for the ShopBot).
Layout your vector design. The entire design must fit within the artboard.
If your design involves joinery, please review the basics of CNC joinery post.
It is good practice to leave a minimum 1 inch margin for hold down clamps and/or screws.
Make sure that all lines are separated by at least the diameter of your intended cutting tool. A minimum of twice the tool diameter is best.
Eliminate any duplicate paths.
Join all contiguous paths. For example, a square should be a single path not 4 individual sides.
Set all line widths to 0.1 pt.
Eliminate all fills.
Save in DXF, DWG, EPS, AI or PDF format.
